Scotland Today

Scotland’s people are famed for their friendliness and, like China, the country is renowned across the globe for its rich culture and heritage.

From a thriving contemporary arts and music scene to achievements in industry, medicine, science, law and literature, Scotland's story is one of immense accomplishment.

Its cultural identity is very strong. There are, of course, the iconic symbols tartan and castles and whisky and golf but Scotland is also, like China, a land of opportunity, with its own vibrant economy offering a rich diversity of cultural experience and a unique blend of innovation and tradition.

Scotland is part of the United Kingdom (UK). Four countries form the UK: Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The UK Government is based in London, while the devolved Scottish Government is based in Edinburgh.

Scotland and the rest of the UK sit on the north-west corner of Europe, separated from the European mainland by the English Channel. The North Sea and Scandanavia are to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
